Vegetarian Wedding in the English Woodlands

Sandra Blanco

“We met in 2004 whilst studying at University in Cardiff. We got engaged in January 2016 on top of the French Alps on a skiing trip. Ben got down on one knee at a spot with panoramic views.”

“I wore a customised version of the Fleur gown by Naomi Neoh (customised by Naomi herself). Ben also asked Naomi to embroider the words ‘Just Love’ in to the side of the dress for me to be surprised by on our wedding day. I loved the ethereal dresses with all that movement. Naomi was amazing and completely understood my style and customised the dress to perfection. I found that the original Fleur was a bit too girly for me so she made something with a much more woodland feel to it.”

“We were inspired by our love of nature and animals whilst also wanting to bring a more urban feel given we have lived in London for many years. We found pictures of low poly animals that really fitted the brief and we used a similar geometric design on the stationery – making origami birds and geometric animal face masks.”

“We wanted a beautiful woodland and when we came across squirrel wood we loved how secluded it was and the large open meadow. When we originally booked there was a small field shelter in the meadow, but over the year they added more space to the shelter using wood from the woodland and also added a large beautiful tent. Many of our guests stayed over at the venue in bell tents and shepherd huts.”

“Our florist was Bohotanical – we wanted flowers that reflect nature, whilst also fitting with the flower crown from Sophie and Luna”.

“Our favourite part of the day was the first look and then walking in to the ceremony. It was great to see each other and have a moment to ourselves before the ceremony began and it was super romantic.”

“We are both atheists and had a beautiful humanist ceremony delivered by the wonderful Kate Gee.”

“My engagement ring was rose gold, morganite and diamond. My engraved, rose gold wedding band was from How Wedding Rings. I wanted my band to match my engagement ring and love rose gold.”

“Our photographer was Lyndsey Goddard, who was assisted by her husband Steve on the day. Lyndsey was incredible. So much fun, yet discreet and just captured all the moments and emotion of the day.”

“I made animal masks and sprayed them in copper. We also had handmade origami birds and terraniums hanging from a tree. We draped muslin cloth from the ceremony archway and used Coriander plants on the table for people to add to their food.”

“Instead of bridesmaids and groomsmen we gave people roles such as Wise Owl, Father Fox, Mother Hen and Mother Goose. It was great to involve lots of our friends in different ways and we wanted something that wasn’t so traditional but more unique to us as a couple.”

“Everyone will give you advice on how to be before the wedding day, but I found that there wasn’t any right way to be, just do what comes naturally to you and it’s totally OK to be stressed out. The other thing is to spend your money on the big things like the photographer and anything else that means a lot to you. Small details like jewellery and shoes aren’t the things you are going to remember on the day unless you really care about that stuff.”

A Bermudian Wedding

Sandra Blanco

Bermudians Sierra-Renae DeSilva and Steven Roy were married in the late afternoon on September 3, 2016, on the lawn at Astwood Park, overlooking the deep blues of the Atlantic.

“We are laid-back people; we wanted something simple and natural and a garden theme fit the bill,” said Sierra-Renae. Following the ceremony, 170 family members and friends gathered at Café Lido at the Elbow Beach Hotel to fete the couple and celebrate their nuptials.

Choosing to abstain from pomp and pageantry, the couple opted for low-key details for their special day. “Much of our décor was made by our planners, including painted wine bottles and mason jars that adorned the tables. Family friend Ronnie Lopes hand-carved the arch we stood underneath to say our vows; that was really special. And in lieu of a wedding suite, we opted for paperless e-invitations—go green!”

The bride had a passion for flower crowns so wearing one was a must on her big day. “I absolutely love flower crowns and couldn’t image getting married without wearing one,” said the bride. “They suited our garden theme perfectly. Sophie and Luna is a small company based in London that makes flower crowns using a mixture of dried and preserved flowers. The company’s founder and director, Sandra Blanco, constructed a bespoke crown for me using red roses and a variety of dustyrose-coloured flowers from around the world. I absolutely fell in love with it; it was everything I imagined and more!

“As for the girls’ crowns, another of my bridesmaids, Emma, chose them individually, selecting each to suit the girls’ different styles and personalities.”

Not to leave out the guys, the couple discovered the perfect set of ties to tie in with their theme. “We wanted the guys to have something fun and colourful to add to their traditional attire,” said Sierra-Renae. “We found Steven a tie at The English Sports Shop, adorned in a festive motif of flamingoes, parrots, cocktails and palm leaves in vibrant, bright colours. We knew it was perfect as soon as we saw it and Steven, along with his groomsmen, wore one on the day.”

TH&TH bridesmaids, affordable quality and beautiful dresses for your girls

Sandra Blanco

There are no words to describe the beauty of these dresses. Lou contacted me a few days before this shoot to use some of my crowns. I never heard of TH&TH Bridesmaids before and how was that possible? They are all gorgeous! The moment I checked their Instagram I fell in love with all of them. They had exactly what I would like for my own bridesmaids: elegant, modern and affordable dresses for such good quality and fun designs for all sizes. They totally got my heart. Enjoy it because these photos are a deli to your eyes, thanks to the amazing team involved.

What do you think? They are as pretty as I mentioned, right? They have more colours available and ready to order. Check out the whole collection online. They also do Bespokes made to order for those who have a creative mind.

Lots of Love,

Morning Mist - Katya Katya Shehurina New Collection

Sandra Blanco

Katya Katya Shehurina just launched her new collection last month called Morning Mist and we luckily were part of the catwalk in Latvia fashion show. I no wonder why she called it Morning Mist. She added a new colour to her wedding range: blue. It's not any blue, it's a elegant blue that goes perfectly with her style <3

For those who never heard of Katya Katya, she is the first  bridal designer with the wonderful idea of having two pieces dress, but this one is one on top of the other. The first piece is n underdress. You can choose any of the colours available: nude, ivory, pink, dusky pink or blue. How wonderful? You can have two different underdresses and one lace top dress to combine them with. Yes!!!!! Two dresses in one!! I have to say it with an exclamation marks: How clever!!

Another new accessory in this collection to mention is the personalised belts. Yes, personalised. You can have your and your fiance's initials, or whatever you'd like embroidered on it. How cute!

Here's a sneak peek of the Behind the Scenes of the Catwalk in the beginning of the month  ;)

She's Katya, a beautiful talented lady with a warm personality.

You can find the whole collection on her website and at her shop in Soho, Central London. Don't miss out. If you can make an appointment and give them a visit, go ahead. I'm 100% you will find 'The Dress' in that visit and you won't have to keep looking.

Katya also makes couture evening dresses ready to wear.

I hope you enjoyed this post. If you'd like to comment it, go ahead! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Lulu and Ed Flamingo's Wedding

Sandra Blanco

'I found people often asked “what’s your theme?” or “what’s the colour scheme?” – that question would require an answer which showed self control, something I lack! When we first spoke with our amazing photographer Kate at Lucabella, we had decided we just wanted to have a really fun dinner, a colourful party, and expect the unexpected kind of day.'

The flowers were so key in my vision, big, bright, bold and unashamedly fantastic with fresh herbs, ornamental cabbages as a nod to my background as a chef. A family friend, Louise Hammond, who describes herself as a grower and arranger of English flowers stepped up to the brief, she was truly amazing!

I had a preserved flower crown made by Sophie and Luna, decorated with little gold seed pods and Louise tied the gold into the bouquet and filled it with symbolic flowers, it was those details I loved the most. I loved my bouquet and bridesmaid’s posies, all hand tied with colourful Indian saree ribbon I had sourced, so much I carried it all day and refused to toss it.

I had always known I wanted long foliage green garlands with big blousy peonies, hydrangea and roses in coral, hot pink, cream and green down the length of the tables.

Blue and Gold Luxe Victorian Inspired shoot

Sandra Blanco

“A dark, luxurious and moody Victorian inspired blue and gold wedding shoot, we took our inspiration from the Victorian Townhouse that we shot in: The Dead Dolls House in Islington, London. Styled by Harriet from Fairly Vintage, our colour palette was sumptuous berry reds, velveteen blue and gold leaf. Touches of vintage lace, cascading flowers and candle light added a whimsical air.

We knew we wanted to create something vintage inspired, that touched on Victoriana and used a popular colour palette of metallics and blues. Then we visited the Dead Dolls House to confirm our shoot location – a wedding venue in a townhouse-come-bar opposite Islington Town Hall, and perfect for weddings. It was perfectly suited not just with the velvet blue sofas and gold table tops, but the lighting, those tarnished mirrors and creaking wooden bar just inspired us to create something much darker, moodier, that reflected the dark side of the dead dolls house, but still befitting to weddings (especially winter weddings).

Justifiably keen on detail-rich styling, Harriet brought in crystal cut plates of dark fruits – plus, blackberries and blueberries which set off the blues and the darker edge to this inspiration shoot, and alongside candle light and berry cocktails we had a sumptuous cocktail bar. That beautiful gold leaf cake was made and decorated by Yolk, topped with foliage and berries it set off the fruit and cake dessert bar so luxuriously.

Florals were greens, blues and whites and beautifully free flowing and wild. The wonderful Sarah of The Flower Bird set off the table with a long runner of foliage and florals almost effortlessly, complementing the green and gold candlesticks and the tea stained vintage lace cloth. Our Victoriana blue stationery is the ‘love amongst the flowers summer sky’ set from Lucy Says I Do.

Bernadette’s gorgeous dresses are all designed and made by Suzanne Harrington of Vintage Trousseau, whose collection of stunning lace gowns is just to die for, and fitted the venue and the theme perfectly.

Set off by the accessories from Sophie and Luna dried flower crowns and Vintage Button Bridal’s headpieces on Bernadette’s gorgeous auburn locks they’re a winning combo!

We just loved the chandelier and who doesn’t love a glitter ball? So it was calling out for some dancing – and with our bride Bernadette being a professional dancer, it would have been rude not to!”

Lauren and Adam's Stylish Barn Wedding in West Sussex

Sandra Blanco

‘I always knew I wanted a Barn venue as I love the boho rustic style. After looking at 9 other barn venues, the moment we stepped into the courtyard at Upwaltham Barns, we just knew it was the one for us; we loved it. It was so pretty and romantic. We had 100 guests in the day and an extra 20 in the evening. We planned it casually over our 18 month engagement.’

'When we saw Matt Parry’s blog and website, we fell in love with his style of photography, we are both not a fan of cheesy staged photos so knew we wanted a photographer to capture natural shots. We also loved that Matt is super creative with his shots and loved some of his quirky photos. He was a pleasure to have as a photographer on our day, and we couldn’t be happier with our photos!'

'I found my dress at the Mews Bridal in Notting Hill, I knew I wanted something a little bohemian but romantic and I also knew I wanted it to be backless and the Mews bridal was just the place. My dress was from a new French designer Lora Folk, it was perfect, exactly what I was looking for.
My shoes were rose gold and from Dune. My flower crown was dried flowers from Sophie and Luna.'

Sash & Luna Collaboration - Launch Party 16th Feb

Sandra Blanco

Hello girls,

After a weekend off - well deserved indeed -  I received Natalie J Watts' photos from the Launch Party last Thursday. I couldn't wait to share them on the website.

Photography by Natalie J Watts

So the point of blogging on a Saturday evening before I'm off for dinner was to say a massive thank you to everyone who came along to support us, to all our brides who came to try on our pieces and also those who made it possible.

What happened...

Heather from Sash + Veil and I came up with the idea of working together on something different. She does veils and I do flowers, what could go wrong?

Delicate handmade veils with our preserved flower crowns and other headpieces to create the ultimate boho look. Such lovely collaboration, full of petals, blush tulles and innovative pieces that we never saw anywhere else. We really wanted to do something unique. We also thought that mixing coloured veils would be fun.

We wanted to show some of the dresses that have been part of the shoots we've done for Sash & Luna collaboration in the past month. If you liked any of the dresses we had complementing our headpieces and veils, here's where you can find them.

We had lovely Emmy with her Brigadeiros. These sweets are a delicatessen that you could have at your wedding. They are made with dulce de leche, original from Brazil. Something different to offer wedding guests. How colourful and yummy they were!

We had the pleasure to have Candra from Wild Rose Hair Stylist joining us, treating brides with suggestions and helping them to find the right hairstyle to wear our crowns and veils. She specialises in boho hair styles. Good hands to leave your hair on for any special event.

New Year, new website

Sandra Blanco

Because 2016 wasn't the best year, we thought of making 2017 a year of changes. We have a new collection, new website, new luxury packaging and lots of new distributors around the country.

Welcome to our new website. I hope you like the look of it and that you enjoy browsing through the pages, getting inspiration for your wedding day and dreaming of flowers in your hair.
